SOLD: The Durrieu Hours, Bruges c. 1510-15
Illuminated manuscript in Latin on vellum. With an incredibly beautiful calendar with 22 large and detailed miniatures by the Master of the David Scenes.
Besides the Brukenthal Book of Hours, this is apparently the only calendar by the Master of the David Scenes, in whose hand we see the work of the great Flemish painter Gerard David. This book provides a view into Late Medieval daily life in the southern Netherlands, and is one of the earliest appearances of these types of townscapes and scenery in European art. Once owned by Comte Paul Durrieu (d. 1925), art historian and Louvre curator.
